Help Us Stop Virginia Localities From Violating Our Privacy With Automatic License Plate Readers !

Great Job Staunton VA !

According to Augusta Free Press, on December 19th it was announced that Staunton, VA  is ending it's contract with Flock and taking down the cameras. Thanks to Chief Williams, Staunton City Manager and City Council.

We are hopeful that Staunton City Council will agree to pass an ordinance to help prevent this from happening again!

Our Mission

At livefreeva.org, our mission is to end the surveillance cameras, primarily Automated License Plate Readers, operated by cities and counties of Virginia. We are currently focused on cities in Rockingham, Albemarle and Augusta Counties. See the Our Next Step section to email Staunton VA City Council Members !

Currently Staunton is ending its surveillance program of ALPR's, Charlottesville did the same just days before Staunton. Augusta County, Bridgewater, Grottoes and Harrisonburg all still have them. Below is a link to a map to see how many your city has. This map is in no way exhaustive and it can be added to if you'd like.

Our Next Step

The Next meeting is Thursday January 22nd at 7pm at Staunton city hall (116 W. Beverly St.) as we encourage city council to pass an ordinance to prevent future mass surveillance and/or tracking in Staunton . We learned December 19th that Chief Williams, the City Manager and City Council had discussed it and the decision was made to end the contract and take down the cameras!!

This is great news!! But do we want this to happen when there's a new Chief and Council ?

Our next goal for Staunton is to call for an ordinance be passed to prevent surveillance systems from being put up again.

WE MUST KEEP UP THE PRESSURE!
